Monday, March 20

The Brookings Toastmasters Club 3712 meets every Monday from 12:05 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the classroom at McCrory Gardens at 631 22nd Ave. Visitors are welcome. The club provides an opportunity to learn public speaking skills, as well as meeting business men and women from the Brookings area. For more information, call 605-957-5144.

• Brookings Health System is sponsoring a hybrid postpartum support group. The adjustment of baby is an exciting time and is also a normal time to experience difficulties or chemical imbalances. Find support for: Life after baby, bonding with your baby, coping with this major life change, mindfulness and relaxation, relationships, communication and self-care. To register, call 605-692-5447.

The group meets every Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. both on Zoom and in person at Brookings Health System, Conference Room C. You will receive an email with Zoom details upon registration if you are joining virtually. Facilitated by licensed clinicians Elizabeth Milton, LPC-MH and Curstie Konold, MSW.

Tuesday, March 21

The Optimist Club of Brookings meets every Tuesday at noon at Pizza Ranch.

• The Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter hosts a weekly women’s support group from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday. For more information, call 692-SAFE (7233).

• Court St Agnes No. 618, Brookings of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas meets the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in social hall. Any Catholic women age 18-plus may join them on Tuesday.

• VFW Post No. 2118 and its auxiliary hold regular meetings on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m at the Post Home at 520 Main Ave.

• Joint Camp is a free, 60-minute educational session for individuals who are having, or are thinking about, knee or hip joint replacements.

Joint Camp is presented by team members who regularly assist patients on their joint journey, including nurses and therapists. Topics covered include an explanation of joint pain, physical and occupational therapy preparation, how to prepare the home for safety, what to bring with to the hospital and what to expect the day of surgery. In addition, patients will learn about available services to help them plan for recovery and going home, including swing bed, short-term rehabilitation, home health and outpatient therapy.

Patients are also encouraged to bring along a support person to Joint Camp. The support person will work with the patient to learn therapeutic exercises and expectations for post-surgical care.

• New Day Al-Anon meets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at First United Methodist Church. Follow the signs inside the church for the exact location.

• An AA Foxhall workshop speaker meeting is held at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at Peace Lutheran Church at 1104 22nd Ave. S. in Brookings.

• The Brookings United Church of Christ hosts an ecumenical interfaith coffee and conversation on Tuesdays at Cottonwood Coffee on Main Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekly.

The group will meet in the back room to discuss current events through the lens of faith. All are welcome.

The Kiwanis Club of Brookings meets every Thursday at noon at the Mission Coffeehouse in First Lutheran Church at 337 Eighth St.

• The Brookings Caregiver Support Group meets on the third Thursday of every month from 10 to 11a.m. The support group creates a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships.

They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
