Brandon Valley boys prevail to complete Lynx sweep of Class AA crowns

RAPID CITY – Brandon Valley completed the Lynx sweep, beating Sioux Falls O’Gorman 54-47 in the Class AA State Boys’ Basketball Tournament final Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center’s Barnett Arena.

The Lynx outscored the Knights 23-14 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Tied at 42-42, Carter Olthoff hit two free throws with 3:10 remaining and Jackson Hilton did the same with 2:43 left to put BV ahead 46-42.

The Lynx led the rest of the way.

OG led 11-10 after 8 minutes. BV was up 24-23 at halftime. The Knights held a 33-31 advantage at the end of three.

Olthoff had 21 points to pace the Lynx. Reserve Gavin Terhark added 14 and Hilton 13.

O’Gorman got 15 points from Luke Ronsiek and 11 by Akoi Akoi.

The fourth-seeded Lynx ended up with a 19-5 record. The No. 3 Knights finished 18-6.

Third place

• Yankton 70, Harrisburg 64, OT

The eighth-seeded Tigers scored the first five points in overtime to beat the Bucks, last year’s champions.

Nick Hoyt buried a 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the extra period and Blair Slaughter’s putback with 2:10 left made it 66-61.

In regulation, Matthew Mors made 1-of-2 free throws with 52 seconds to go to knot the score at 61-all.

Yankton was up 17-16 after 8 minutes; Harrisburg led 37-29 at halftime; Yankton moved ahead 53-51 heading to the fourth.

Hoyt paced the Tigers with 29 points. Slaughter added 14 and reserve Conner Geddes 13.

Mors posted a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Cooper Cornemann had 14 markers and Miles Carda 10.

Fifth place

• Sioux Falls Roosevelt 67, Sioux Falls Lincoln 49

The Rough Riders led 16-9 after a quarter, 30-22 at halftime and 53-33 through three.

They shot 54.3 percent (25-of-46) and buried 14 3-pointers.
Tucker West (five) scored 25 points, Tyler Feldkamp (four) 19 and Carson Devericks (four) 16 while combining to knock down 13 treys.

The Patriots’ Nate Brecht had 13 points.

Seventh place

 Huron 61, Rapid City Stevens 56

The Raiders were up 16-15 after a quarter and 32-28 at halftime. The 10th-seeeded Tigers moved ahead 48-45 entering the fourth.

Huron’s Teegan Evers posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kobe Busch scored 18 points.

Stevens’ Mason Steele tallied a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards. Dylan Pourier had 12 points.
