Boys’ State Tennis Tournament starts today

SIOUX FALLS – The 86th Annual Boy State Tennis Tournament will be held in Sioux Falls, May 18-20. Twenty-three teams have entered the tournament. Champions will be determined in six singles flights and three doubles flights over the course of the three days.

Previous champions participating in the tournament are:

Kaleb Dobbs, S.F. Lincoln, Sr. – will be going for a three-peat in Flight 1 Singles.

Sam Dobbs, S.F. Lincoln, So. – will return to defend his championship at Flight 2 Singles.

There will be new champions at Flights 3 and 4 due to graduation.

Graham Leonard, S.F. Lincoln, Jr. – will return to defend his title at Flight 5.

There will be a new champion at Flight 6 as last year’s champion, Michael Yousef of S.F. O’Gorman moved up to Flight 3.

Lincoln’s Kaleb and Sam Dobbs will be going for a three-peat in First Flight Doubles.

In Flight 2, Wil McDowell and partner Sam Heckmann will try and defend their championship.

There will be a new champion crowned in Doubles Flight 3, as defending champion Graham Leonard will team up with new partner Akshay Choudhry.

Lincoln will be going for four team titles in a row as a team champion has been determined the past 46 years of the state tennis tournament.

First-round singles matches begin at 8 a.m. with Flights 1 and 2 at McKennan Park; Flights 3 and 4 at Washington; and Flights 5 and 6 at Brandon Valley.

Doubles matches start at 2:45 p.m. with Flight 1 at McKennan Park, Flight 2 at Washington and Flight 3 at Brandon Valley.

Matches continue on Friday at McKennan Park, Sioux Falls Washington and Brandon at 8 a.m. On Saturday, play resumes at McKennan Park for all flights, beginning with Flights 1-3 Doubles championship semifinals starting at 8 a.m.
