Bombers Gray split

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray split a youth baseball doubleheader with Pierre U13-14 on Friday afternoon at Mickelson Field, winning the opener 5-4 and then dropping Game 2 by an 11-10 margin.

Brookings (3-19) plays host to Brandon Valley for a twinbill Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Game 1

• Brookings 5, Pierre 4

The Bombers Gray built a 5-1 lead after two innings and held on for the win.

Brayton Mack, who doubled, and Gavin Fixsen both had a hit and an RBI.

Aidan Stewart and Jesse Roberts added an RBI apiece. Logan Stotz, Isac Norgaard, David Fenske and Matthew Weelborg each singled.

Five different Brookings players scored a run.

Fixsen picked up the win after allowing four runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Joseph Holy threw the final two innings, giving up two hits and two walks with one strikeout, to notch the save.

Game 2

• Pierre 11, Brookings 10

Pierre scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull out the victory. That came after the Bombers Gray scored six times in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead 10-8.

Norgaard went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs.

Stewart was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Magnus Nelson added a single and two RBIs.

Fenske and Weelborg both contributed a hit and an RBI. Fixsen scored twice.

Norgaard, the second of three pitchers, took the loss after allowing four runs on one hit and seven walks with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Stotz, the starter, gave up seven runs – five earned – on five hits and five walks with one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings. Holy retired the final batter via strikeout in relief of Norgaard.
