Bombers Black sweep Marshall, Minn.

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Brookings Bombers Black swept a youth baseball doubleheader from Marshall, Minn., on Thursday, winning 8-1 and 15-8.

Brookings (2-1) plays host to the Sioux Falls West 14s on Monday at 4 p.m. at Mickelson Field.

Game 1

• Bombers Black 8, Marshall 1

Brookings scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take control early ahead 5-0.

Maxwell Kjelden went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Henry Hammrich also had two hits, while Jamison Honkomp drove in a pair of runs. Cole Mahlum scored twice.

Jackson Krogman reached base in all four of his plate appearances, walking three times and getting hit by a pitch.

The Bombers Black totaled seven hits and 11 free passes, including six walks.

Krogman picked up the win after allowing one run – unearned – on two hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts. Mason Bebensee tallied the save after surrendering just one hit with four strikeouts and three walks over the final four frames.

Game 2

• Bombers Black 15, Marshall 8 (6 inn.)

Brookings scored at least one run in every frame and built an 11-1 lead after 3 1/2 innings en route to completing the sweep.

The Bombers Black finished with nine hits and 18 free passes, including 14 walks.

Max Struck and Reid Brettschneider both finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Hammrich also tallied a pair of hits and Nick Schefers drove in a pair of runs. John Noordsy drew four walks. Bebensee scored three runs.

Jamison Honkomp earned the win on the mound, giving up one run on two hits and three walks with a strikout. Kjelden, Noordsy and Hammrich each threw one inning in relief.
