Bobcats, Knights split baseball doubleheader

SIOUX FALLS – The Bobcats split with O’Gorman in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday, bouncing back from a 3-0 loss with a 6-5 victory.

On Saturday, Brookings (18-6) hosts Douglas at 2 p.m. and Sioux Falls Lincoln at 6 p.m. The ‘Cats and Patriots then play a twinbill Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Knights have a 9-11 record.

Game 1

 O’Gorman 3, Brookings 0

Reece Arbogast struck out 14 batters and didn’t issue a walk while tossing a two-hit shutout.

Sixty-one of his 73 pitches were strikes.

Andrew Barr and Andy Moen had RBI doubles for the Knights.

The Bobcats’ Henry Hammrich and Jamison Honkomp singled.

Mason Bebensee surrendered three runs – two earned – on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings.

Game 2

 Brookings 6, O’Gorman 5

The Bobcats put up a five-spot in the fourth frame to grab a 5-3 lead and then held off the Knights.

It was 6-4 after five innings, before OG scored a run in the sixth to provide for the final margin.

Cole Mahlum finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Max Kjelden went 2-for-3.

Jake Ammann had an RBI double, with Witte and Lincoln Hardin also driving in runs.

Kyle Bauer earned the pitching victory after giving up five runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk over 5 2/3 innings.

Ammann tossed 1 1/3 hitless innings to log the save, striking out two and walking one.
