Bobcat Tennis goes 1-1 in opener

BROOKINGS –Brookings girls’ tennis team went 1-1 in its first two matches of the season.
The Bobcats beat Milbank, 6-3, before falling to Yankton, 6-3, in the second match of the triangular.
The Bobcats will host another triangular on Monday. They will play Mitchell at 10 a.m. and Sioux Falls Jefferson at 3 p.m.

• Brookings 6, Milbank 3

The Bobcats started the season 1-0 after winning six of the nine matches against Milbank.
Sophie Tanner got the win in the No. 2 singles match after beating Elsie Seffrood 10-1. In the No. 4 singles match Brea Tonsager beat Ashlynn Lamp 10-2.
Brookings got the sweep in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches. Elle Schulte-Coplan beat Jenna Korjstens 10-0 and Nancy Yang defeated Caitlyn Frerichs 10-1.
The Bobcats then picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. Camryn Vermeer and Tanner beat Hope Karels and Seffrood 10-8 in the No. 1 match. Schulte-Coplan and Yang beat Frierichs and Korjstens 10-8 in the No. 3 match.

• Yankton 6, Brookings 3
Brookings was unable to get the win in the second match of the triangular.
Schulte-Caplan and Yang picked up wins in their singles matches and won their doubles match.
Schulte-Caplan beat Kara Koerner 10-3 in the No. 5 singles match and Yang defeated Sienna Luka 10-2 in the No. 6 match. The pair then beat Koerner and Luka 10-8 in the No. 3 doubles match.
