Bobcat soccer teams swept in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG – The Brookings boys and girls soccer teams dropped both ends of a doubleheader in Harrisburg on Tuesday night with the boys losing 4-3 and the girls falling by a score of 6-0.

Brookings will host a doubleheader against Mitchell on Thursday. The boys game will start at 4 p.m. and the girls will follow at 6 p.m.

Boys

• Harrisburg 4, Brookings 3

The Bobcats fell into an early hole against the Tigers as Max Bates’ free kick in the 19th minute sent them into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Harrisburg continued to build their advantage in the second half as Alexander Jensen scored in the 52nd minute and Emory Johnson scored in the 56th minute to put the Tigers up 3-0.

Brookings (3-7-1) made it a game by scoring three goals in the next five minutes beginning with James Park’s free kick in the 58th minute. Park also fueled the rally with a pair of assists, feeling Rylan Eide on goals in the 62nd and 63rd minute to knot the game up at 3-3.

The Bobcats’ rally came up short, however, as Markus Schofield scored in the 79th minute to put the Tigers ahead and secure the victory.

Brookings had 15 total shots on the night including five from Brayden Schreiber. Forrest Giard also had three shots for the Bobcats while Drew Ton had two shots and Dominic VanHofwegen and Jordan Mofle each recorded a shot. Nithin Perumal made four saves on eight shots in the loss.

Girls

• Harrisburg 6, Brookings 0

Jaylee Hofer led the Tigers in the nightcap, scoring five goals in a win over the Bobcats. Hofer’s first goal came on a header seven minutes into the game before she scored again in the 10th minute. Her third goal of the game came 10 minutes later to send Harrisburg into the half with a 3-0 and she extended the lead three minutes into the second half with her fourth goal of the night.

Elsie Odney got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 65th minute before Hofer put an end on the night with her fifth goal in the 78th minute.

Ava Sandine made 10 saves on the night for the Bobcats (3-7-1) while Brookings managed six shots total. Elise Lefers and Maddix Archer had two shots each for Brookings while Lexi Erp and Isabel Eide each had one shot in the loss.
