RAPID CITY – The Brookings High School girls split a pair of games against both Rapid City public schools, while the Bobcat boys dropped both contests in season-opening soccer action in Rapid City on Friday and Saturday.

Both the Bobcats’ boys and girls will be on the road on Thursday at Bishop O’Gorman. JV games will start at 4 p.m. at O’Gorman High School, with the boys’ game at 6 p.m. and the girls’ game at 8 p.m.

Friday – Girls

 RC Stevens 6, Brookings 0

The defending state champion Raiders cruised past Brookings 6-0 on Friday night in Rapid City.

Stevens’ Breanna Reagan scored 54 seconds into the match to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth minute Breanna Reagan set up sister Trinity to make it 2-0, then Addie Hofer increased the Raiders’ lead to 3-0 in the 18th minute.

Breanna Reagan’s second goal of the game came with six minutes left in the first half to give Stevens a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Raiders made it 5-0 in the 57th minute, the result of a foul inside the box that drew a penalty shot that Ella Lantz buried. Breanna Reagan’s third goal of the game came in the 75th minute and completed her hat trick to put Stevens up 6-0.

Boys

 RC Stevens 2, Brookings 1

The Raiders’ Ty Gagne scored with 27 second left in the game to break a one-all tie, giving Stevens the lead and eventual win.

Brookings would get on the board first in the game, however. Junior Eberline gave the Bobcats a lead less than four minutes into the game to give Brookings a 1-0 lead and they would carry that advantage into halftime.

Stevens would quickly tie the game just 50 seconds into the second half as Ryan Gaughan scored to tie the game at a goal each.

The score remained tied until Gagne’s goal in the final half minute.

Brookings had a chance to draw level as time wound down with a free kick but the attempt sailed wide and the game ended.

Saturday – Girls

 Brookings 3, RC Central 1

Brookings scored three goals in the final six minutes of the game to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win for the Bobcats’ first win of the 2022 season.

The Cobblers got on the board in the 46th minute as Kiley Mellum scored on a penalty kick to give Central a 1-0 lead.

That lead would remain until the 74th minute when Elise Lefers snuck a shot past the Cobblers’ keeper to knot the score at one.

Lefers added a second goal in the 75th minute to give the Bobcats the lead at 2-1, then Maddix Archer scored on a free kick to extend the lead to 3-1 inside the final minute of the game.

Boys

• RC Central 1, Brookings 0

Brookings had a chance to take an early lead on a penalty kick but the Cobblers’ goalie guessed correctly and stopped the kick in the 12th minute of the game.

That save proved critical as Central’s Caleb Hower snuck a shot into the Bobcats’ goal in the 25th minute for a 1-0 lead and would ultimately be the game-winning goal.
