BROOKINGS – The Brookings High School marching band has started its competition season. With 120 members and over a third of them new to marching band, they have had a strong start.
After finishing second in their class at the Pursuit of Excellence competition in Marshall, Minnesota on Sept. 17, they headed to the Tri-State Band Festival in Luverne, Minnesota, below, and Big Sioux Review in Brandon, above, on Saturday, Sept. 24.
They had a great day and night at both competitions, achieving two first-place finishes. In Brandon they also won the sweepstakes award for being first overall among all the bands at the competition, and won caption awards for best winds, percussion and drum majors.
Along with their first-place finish in Luverne, they also won caption awards for best winds and percussion.
Next up for the marching band is the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls on Oct. 1, where they will compete in the Class AAA and perform in the prelims at 2:15 p.m.
If you can’t make it in person, this event will be live streamed on the Howard Wood Field YouTube Channel. They will also perform their field show during half-time at the Bobcat Homecoming football game.
