Blizzard earn weekend split with Bruins

AUSTIN, Minn. – Despite getting outshot, 45-14, the Blizzard earned a weekend split by beating the Bruins, 4-1, on Saturday night at Riverside Arena.

Brock Draeger scored less than 6 minutes into the game to give Brookings a 1-0 lead after a period as Luke Aquaro picked up the assist.

After a scoreless second, Gabe Wahl lit the lamp off a Tyler Hinterser helper with 10:38 left in the game.

Ben Almquist’s goal at the 6:34 mark made it 2-1, but Hinterser scored an unassisted power-play goal with 1:10 to play, and then, Brady Bjork’s empty netter with 18 seconds on the clock.

George McBey collected 44 saves for the win in goal as Kyle McClellan had 10 saves for the Bruins.

Brookings, 10-39-3-1 with 24 points, plays host to the MN Wilderness on Friday and Saturday at Larson Ice Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
