Bandits split two at St. Cloud Tournament

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Brookings Bandits split a pair of games on Saturday at the St. Cloud (Minn.) Tournament – shutting out Tri City, 9-0, before losing 13-6 to St. Michaels to finish tournament play with a 1-3 mark.

Brookings, 4-14 overall, plays host to Renner on Tuesday in a single game that starts at 6:30 p.m.

Chris Lerdal tossed a three-hit complete game with eight strikeouts to earn the win as six different Bandits tallied a hit on the offensive side.

Lerdal helped himself out with a one-run triple and a sacrifice fly that plated another run as Akren Prodoehl also picked up a pair of RBIs.

Brandon Nelson had two hits and scored twice while Jacob Devine scored three times and also had a hit and an RBI, as did Cody Niklason.

• St. Michaels 13, Brookings 6

St. Michaels scored seven runs over the first two innings to take control and cruised to a 13-6 win over the Bandits late Saturday.

Brookings did pound out 12 hits and scored in all but two innings as Akren Prodoehl and Niklason tallied three hits apiece, with one of Prodoehl’s knocks going for two bases.

Justin Devine and Lerdal each collected a double as Nelson was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs – two earned – on four hits and a walk in one inning.

Prodoehl tossed two frames and allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits and a walk.

Ryan McMacken finished up and gave up five runs on five hits and seven walks with four strikeouts over the final four innings.
