Bandits build 3-0 lead before storm hits

ABERDEEN – The Bandits led the Smittys 3-0 in the top of the third inning when a thunderstorm hit the area and made field conditions unplayable.

It was a region game. It wasn’t immediately clear if it would be resumed at a later date or called a Brookings victory.

Justin Devine pitched two scoreless innings, working around four walks and striking out one.

Tyler Kreutner led off the game with a double, moved to third on a passed ball with one away and then scored on Jacob Schoon’s groundout.

Tanner Shepardson walked with one out in the second and advanced on a passed ball. Trevor Berreth followed with a single. Jackson Krogman stroked a two-run double to left to make it 3-0.

Post 74 put together another threat in the third as Devine and Schoon drew back-to-back walks and then advanced on a wild pitch. Rhett Zelinsky was at the plate when the game was halted.

Post 24’s Brock Martin allowed three runs on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in two-plus innings.

Brookings, which entered Monday’s contest with a 10-11 record, is host to Renner for a doubleheader Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Bob Shelden Field.
