BROOKINGS – Teacher Appreciation Day for Brookings schools was held by the VFW Auxiliary No. 2118 of Brookings on April 3. This annual spring event is a small thank you to the Brookings education system.

Above, some of the auxiliary members who helped make the Teacher Appreciation Day a success again this year are, back row from left: Linda Vollan, Krys Laabs, Wanda Mix and Pat Friedrich. Front row: Lois Ladegaard, Sandy Meisenheimer, Vickie Rosse, Jan Olson and Joyce Barse. Not pictured was Nanette Schroeder.

Each year the members of the auxiliary volunteer to make dozens of cookies. The cookies are brought together the morning of the distribution and plated for each school. The number of staff determines the number of cookie trays taken to each school.

This year the auxiliary achieved an all-time high of over 600 staff and teachers with members providing over 1,600 cookies.

Auxiliary members deliver the cookies to the schools before the noon hour so treats are available to the teachers and staff from noon on. This year 43 members contributed cookies and 11 members helped plate and deliver the cookies.
