Arrows, Lynx win ESD Indoor

BROOKINGS – The Brandon Valley girls and Watertown boys earned Eastern South Dakota Conference indoor track and field team titles on Saturday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

The Arrows edged the Lynx by half a point in the boys’ team chase while the Lynx cruised to the girls’ championship.

Brookings finished fourth in the girls’ standings and eighth in the boys’ as the Bobcats captured five individual titles.

Ellie Abraham won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs in respective times of 2 minutes, 23.84 seconds and 5:22.66, while Madison Gray posted a time of 1:41.34 to win the 600-meter run.

On the boys’ side, Greg Opdahl won the 600 with a mark of 1:33.24 as Devin Coughlin went 40 feet, 6 1/2 inches to win the triple jump.

The girls’ success continued in the short sprints as Sydney Maher placed fifth in the 100 in 12.93 seconds and Grace Eggebrecht was eight in 13.15.

In the 200, Emily Rystrom and Maher finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in 27.16 and 27.80.

Brooke Wika added a sixth-place finish in the 600 in 1:53.41 as Ellie Hegdahl (9.97) and Eggebrecht (10.10) crossed in seventh and eight, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles; and Amanda Kees tied for fifth in the 300 hurdles in 50.95.

Clarissa Miller’s eight-place mark of 32-5 in the triple jump rounded out the individual place-winners while the Bobcat relay squads garnered second-, third- and fifth-place finishes.

The 4x300 squad of Baylee Tetzlaff, Rystrom, Kee and Gray clocked a 3:01.82 to place second; the distance medley foursome of Josie Bono, Mariah McKibben, Wika and Bastienne Baggett crossed in 14:33.33 for third; and Jaci Sebern, Abby Mathiason, Jane Ardry and Tatum Sheridan placed fifth in the 4x100 in 54.46.

Nick Rudnik and Charlie Wang placed fourth and eighth in respective times of 5:06.41 and 5:12.11 in the 1,600, while Isaac Conrad placed sixth in the 800 in 2:11.88 and Matteo Cabra ran a 1:38.79 for seventh in the 600.

In the boys’ field events, Dillon Jensen finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 134-11; Seth Swedlund cleared 5-10 to tie for third in the high jump, while the boys’ relay squads placed fourth and fifth.

Coughlin, Jordan Cournoyer, Reece Weber and Swedlund clocked a time of 2:38.46 for fourth in the 4x300 while the distance medley squad of Mohamed Ismail, Rudnik, Conrad and Opdahl placed fifth in 12:20.13.

The Bobcats travel to Brandon on Saturday to compete in the Brandon Valley Invitational.
