Area football: Elks, Raiders win

Elkton/Lake Benton and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland picked up victories in area football on Friday night.

 Elkton-Lake Benton 56, Deubrook Area 6

Ryan Krog’s five passing touchdowns – four to Logan Kuehl – led Elkton-Lake Benton to a 56-6 win over Deubrook Area on Friday night in Elkton as the Elks celebrated Homecoming.

Krog completed 15-of-20 passes for 350 yards and five scores against zero interceptions.

A pair of Elks finished with over 100 receiving yards.

Kuehl logged 129 yards on eight receptions with four touchdowns, and Riley Hunter added 118 yards on just two catches, to lead the E-LB receiving corps.

Aiden Erickson added a pair of receptions for the Elks, while picking up 28 yards rushing on four attempts.

Tanner Stein scored a touchdown on the ground, picking up 18 yards on two carries.

The Elks also got a 52-yard touchdown on Riddick Westley’s punt return score.

Defensively for Elkton-Lake Benton, Matthew Grooters forced a fumble and recorded a pair of tackles, while Riley Hunter recorded 3.5 tackles, and Martin Davis posted three tackles.

Tanner Drietz also recorded three tackles and recovered a Dolphins fumble.

For Deubrook Area, Jace Vomacka recorded 21 yards passing, completing 5-of-14 throws.

Treven Grimsrud’s 52 yards on the ground on nine carries.

Nolan Peterson picked up the Dolphins lone touchdown, scoring on a four-yard touchdown plunge.

JP Rogness snagged a pair of passes for 18 yards.

Elkton-Lake Benton (2-3) travels to Castlewood on Friday, a 7 p.m. matchup with the Warriors.

Deubrook Area (0-5) makes the trip to Alexandria to take on the Hanson Beavers. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. 

 Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 48, Estelline/Hendricks 0

Orion Albertson scored three touchdowns and Will Matson scored twice as the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders shutout Estelline/Hendricks 48-0 on Friday night in Rutland.

“We used our bye week to get healthy, and it was nice to have a little extra time to prepare for Estelline,” said Raiders head coach Logan DeRungs. “We added a few things on offense that we will continue to build on the next few weeks.”

Albertson ran for 67 yards on just five carries and Matson picked up 45 yards on seven carries as the Raiders racked up 183 yards on the ground.

Matson also completed 5-of-11 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Four of those receptions and the touchdown catch were by Will Olson, who had 31 of the Raiders 34 total passing yards.

Defensively, Albertson totaled 11 tackles and a pair of sacks. He also had a punt block and scored two points for the Raiders on a safety.

Matson added eight tackles – two for loss, and Olson chipped in with five tackles and a sack.

Jacob Jaton had a pair of sacks and four tackles.

“I thought our defense and special teams did a great job of giving the offense a short field the entire night,” DeRungs added. “Orion Albertson’s blocked punt in the first quarter really charged us up and there was no looking back from there.”

 Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan 38, Flandreau 13

Flandreau outgained Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan 318-305 but turnovers doomed the Filers in a 38-13 loss in Bridgewater on Friday night.

“Turnovers plagued us in the 2nd half so we need to use this upcoming bye week to improve on our ball security,” said Derek Genzliner, Fliers head coach.

Ethan Hoffman ran for 144 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown, and also completed a pass for a 30-yard gain.

Tathan Headrick picked up 64 on 15 carries, and also had a pair of receptions for 22 yards.

Tash Lunday recorded two catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Tanner Christenson finished 6-of-12 passing for 71 yards with a touchdown and interception.

“Our boys outplayed the number two ranked team in the state for much of the game,” Genzlinger added. “We had a rough fourth quarter but were winning the entire game until there was ten minutes left in the game.”

Flandreau drops to 1-4 on the season. The Fliers are off this week but return to action on Friday, Oct. 1 as they host Parker with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

 De Smet 62, Arlington/Lake Preston 0

De Smet scored five touchdowns and four two-point conversions in the first quarter, scoring 38 points, en route to a 62-0 win over Arlington/Lake Preston on Friday night in Lake Preston.

The Bulldogs outgained the Badgers 167-13 in the game which was ended at halftime by mercy rule.

Kalen Garry scored on both his rushing attempts, totaling 36 yards on just two carries.

Kadyn Fast’s 26-yard scamper on his only carry resulted in a Bulldogs touchdown, as well.

Colt Wilkinson tossed for 28 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown pass to Rett Osthus.

For Arlington/Lake Preston, Nate Kersting picked up ten yards rushing on four attempts.

De Smet (5-0) hosts Kimball/White Lake this Friday. Kickoff on Homecoming between the Bulldogs and Wildkats is set for 7 p.m.

Arlington/Lake Preston falls to 0-4 and will host Hamlin on Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
