Area FFA members compete at the state fair

HURON – Members of the South Dakota FFA participated in a wide range of educational activities during the 2022 South Dakota State Fair held Sept. 1-5 in Huron.

At the State Fair, there were 360 FFA members who exhibited 1,224 exhibits. Jacob Post of Sioux Valley took second place in the dairy showmanship contest, and several area FFA members fared well at the fair:

Above: In the round robin showmanship competition Josie Nold, left, of Brookings won second place, and Drew Pederson of Garretson took first.

Below 1: Wyat James of Estelline showed the reserve champion breeding heifer. James also took first place in the breeding beef showmanships contest, and Mattisyn Keppen of Sioux Valley placed third.

Below 2: Lacie Weber of Rutland showed the reserve champion market gilt. She also took third place in the market gilt showmanship contest.

Below 3: Cody Larson of Brookings showed the champion market lamb. Josie Nold of Brookings captured first-place in the breeding sheep showmanship competition.

Below 4: Brityn Davies of Lake Preston showed the reserve champion doe in the dairy goat show. Davies also captured third place in the dairy goat showmanship contest.

Below 5: Ashlyn Tangen of Sioux Valley showed the reserve champion breeding meat goat. Emma Pierce of Estelline took second place in the breeding meat goat showmanship competition, and Tangen took third.
