Aiming to Inspire hits fundraising target

BROOKINGS – More than 30 teams participated in Brookings Health System Foundation‘s 10th annual Aiming to Inspire Health sporting clays fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 15, at Medary Creek Hunt Club, rural Aurora, presented by First Bank & Trust.

Net proceeds of $19,200 will help purchase new Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgical equipment and instrumentation for Brookings Hospital.

The recent additions of Otolaryngologists Dr. Thomas Tamura of Midwest ENT and Dr. Jonathan Mellema of Avera Medical Group have significantly expanded access to ENT services at Brookings Health. Area patients may receive diagnosis, treatment, medical and surgical services for conditions affecting the head, neck, sinuses, ears, nose and throat close to home.

The new equipment and instruments will enable otolaryngologists to perform minimally invasive procedures for patients, including pediatric procedures like PE tube insertion and tonsil and adenoid removal for kids. The equipment will also include a surgical platform and navigation system for image-guided sinus surgery. The navigation system will increase sinus procedure accuracy and safety, resulting in shorter recovery, less pain and better outcomes for patients.
