3M of Brookings and Malarkey Roofing partnered to bring the "All Kids Bike" program to the Medary Elementary PE class on Monday afternoon.
The launching of the program included revealing Strider Balance Bikes for the class as well as remarks about bikes safety from Medary Principal Chris Gruenhagen, Mark Hausman with Malarkey Roofing and Lindsey Frederick with 3M. PE teacher Kristi Raab demonstrated how to ride the Strider bikes on an adult-sized version.
The "All Kids Bike" program provides Medary Elementary with the Learn-to-Ride curriculum, teacher training, the Strider bikes, pedal-conversion kits and helmets. "All Kids Bike" is a national movement to place kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride programs into public schools, using donations from individuals, businesses and organizations. The "All Kids Bike" kindergarten PE program boasts an inclusive, proven Learn-to-Ride curriculum that offers every child the opportunity to experience the joy of two wheels. Launched in March 2018, there are already over 700 schools across 50 states teaching thousands of children how to ride over the next seven to 10 years.
Students were fitted with shower caps and then helmets, shown how to use the kickstand on the bike and how to push themselves on them and then finally started riding.
