6 Squared Fundraiser, grand opening approach

BROOKINGS – Imagine walking into an art show and seeing hundreds of 6x6-inch works of art, each priced at $20.

This will happen at the Brookings Arts Council’s Bi-Annual 6 Squared Fundraiser and public grand opening scheduled for Sept. 30.

This free event will bring artists and art lovers together for a fun and exciting visual art event in Brookings and is a fabulous opportunity to tour the renovated facility, BAC director Heather Kuhlman said.

A gallery show featuring art pieces from across the country begins today and runs through Sept. 30, the day of the event. This gallery exhibit will allow the public to view eclectic works of art prior to the fun-filled evening. Previews of the pieces can also be found on the BAC website, www.brookingsartscouncil.org, under the 6 Squared tab.

Live music, face painting, light refreshments and tours of the building will start the event off at 4 p.m. Sept. 30, with the raffle for 30 early-buying positions starting at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5. Raffle numbers pulled will provide each lucky recipient one minute of exclusive buying time with only 30 total tickets being drawn.

At 5:31 p.m., the art sale opens to all in attendance with all art works for sale for $20 each.

Each piece will be on display, with artists’ names on the back, making it a wonderful surprise when the buyer discovers who created their chosen work of art, Kuhlman said.

“It is fun and exciting to watch our art lovers fall in love with an art piece and then flip it over at the time of purchase to discover if it is your favorite well-known artist’s piece or introduces you to a new up-and-coming artist. It’s buying art not for the name, but because it spoke to you.”

Early buying raffle tickets can be purchased at the Brookings Arts Council for $5 each in advance and the evening of the event.
