Watertown artist to speak in Brookings on ‘The Art of Craft’

BROOKINGS — Next week’s South Dakota Art Museum Guild gathering will feature Watertown artist Karen J. Lauseng on May 26. Coffee and social time begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by the program at 10.

Lauseng will share images of her artwork, explain the process she uses in the design of her pieces and present an eclectic mix of jewelry, mosaics, sculpture, mixed media and repurposed art. This will be an inspiring presentation that you don’t want to miss!

Karen J. Lauseng is an award-winning craft artist, jewelry maker and writer whose craft designs, jewelry techniques and tutorials have been showcased in over 50 publications by Lark Crafts, Art Jewelry Magazine, Lapidary Journal/Jewelry Artist, Rock and Gem, Metalsmith, Art Doll Quarterly, Plainsong, South Dakota Magazine, The Crafts Report and Creative Home Arts.

Lauseng’s artworks have been displayed in over 100 venues including solo exhibitions, juried regional and national exhibits, faculty exhibits, invitational group exhibitions, and galleries.

This program is the eighth and final program in the Art Museum Guild’s 2025-26 season with monthly gatherings featuring free talks by artists, authors, curators, and museum professionals. The community is welcome to attend and encouraged to support the guild’s programs and art acquisition fund with annual dues of $30. The South Dakota Art Museum is located at 1036 Medary Ave. in Brookings. There is free designated parking on Harvey Dunn Street, just west of the museum.
