Letter to the Editor: Land purchase ban a silly thing

For the last 70-plus yeas, I have heard the saying that this country will be taken over without a shot being fired.

And as I have watched, the saying is coming to be more and more true.

I got some political mail from Sen. Mike Rounds with Trump and Mike smiling like they really did a good thing for the American farmland by banning China, Russia, Iran and North Korea from buying land near military bases. That sounds good, but it’s like shutting the barn door after the horses got out.

What are they going to do with the thousands and thousands of acres of land China already owns within 35 miles of all the military bases in the south and east of the U.S.?

China bought a lot of the pork-producing places in the south and east of the U.S.

And what’s to say China can’t buy land 36 miles from our military bases?

Since there is no term limit on our senators, the only way to correct this is to not vote for them.

I don’s know what effect this will have on the pork producers, but I can’t believe it will be good.

I feel no foreign country should be able to buy one acre to U.S. soil, period.

I have voted for Rounds and Trump in the past, but that has come to an end.
