Sheriff’s office investigating Bruce-area burglary, Volga hit-and-run

BROOKINGS COUNTY — Law enforcers in Brookings County are requesting the public’s assistance in solving a pair of recent incidents: A burglary southeast of Bruce and a hit-and-run in Volga. 

Money stolen 

The burglary occurred between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. on May 10 at a residence on 468th Avenue near 206th Street, Patrol Sgt. Manny Langstraat wrote in a May 15 news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. 

“The resident reported items being moved within the home and an unlocked safe being entered,” he wrote. “The suspect(s) removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe before departing.” 

Langstraat added that area residents are requested to check security cameras for any suspicious activity before and after the burglary and to report any suspicious activity to dispatch by calling 605-692-2113.

Langstraat wrote that the sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into the burglary. 

$1,200 damage 

The hit-and-run incident occurred in the Sioux Valley Schools parking lot on May 12 between 8:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and was reported at 6:25 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. 

It resulted in $1,200 damage to the rear bumper of a white 2016 Chevy Cruze, Langstraat wrote. 

“The owner of the vehicle noticed black scratches on the bumper after being parked,” he wrote.
