ARLINGTON — For Arlington High School graduate Jake Burns, keeping the water flowing is in his immediate future.

Burns, son of Paul and Jen Burns, is foregoing post-secondary education and going straight into the work force.

He has accepted a position with Dritz Irrigation out of Aurora. He’s been working with the company over the summers during his high school years.

He has been working as a service technician for Dritz, installing and providing maintenance work on irrigation pivots.

The owner of Dritz was a co-worker of his father before starting the business and he initially got the job because of that connection.

He says his experience with the company will be helpful in his transition to working full-time for the irrigation company.“I’ll still learn. You’re always learning in this job, but I know how to get around a little bit,” Burns said.

“I like the diversity — how you’re never doing the same thing. You’re hardly doing something alike from day to day. There’s something different every day.”

Burns said he has enjoyed his work for the company and he plans to make a career in the irrigation business. “I want to work my way up and hopefully eventually own the business.”

He will start full-time with Dritz at the conclusion of Arlington’s track season. He was also involved in athletics — football, basketball and baseball — at Arlington. He also participated in FFA during his high school career.
