BROOKINGS — No injuries were reported in a May 7 fire that originated in an apartment’s stove.

Firefighters with the Brookings Fire Department responded to the evening incident — approximately 7:35 p.m., to be more precise — in the 1700 block of Christine Avenue following reports of smoke coming from the apartment.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the apartment filled with smoke and identified a stove fire inside the residence,” BFD Fire Marshal Jared Runge told The Brookings Register. “Crews quickly brought the fire under control and prevented further damage.”

He added that no one was in the apartment at the time of the fire, and that five trucks and 23 firefighters answered the call for help.

Further assistance, Runge said, was provided by the Brookings Police Department and Brookings Ambulance.
