Letter to the Editor: New pool construction receives support

A needed swimming pool and water park need to be built in Brookings in a rec center.

In the early 1960s, the then-small community of Brookings had foresight to construct a five-lane pool as part of a new high school.

Now our population has grown and a 10-lane pool needs to be built as part of a rec center building with a 100-yard turf field. We’ve paid mega-bucks for the PAC at SDSU and that is coming to an end.

Recreational costs money and a rec center adds to the viability of a wholesome community and we, the citizens who live here, have the responsibility to pay for it.

All individuals with foresight need to step up and organize a group to see one is built with the help of millionaires outside and inside our community with naming rights along with the taxpayers of our town.

Donate money to the Brookings Foundation, a 501C corporation.

Also, the Dacotah Bank Center should continue as is, supporting a variety of activities.

We, the citizens of Brookings, need to support that expense as a public service for the vibrance of our town.
