BROOKINGS — The city of Brookings is accepting applications for city funds for the 2027 fiscal year. The city’s fiscal year aligns with the calendar year. The completed application and other required documents must be submitted to the City Manager’s Office no later than June 1.
Funding applications and guidelines are available:
• Online at www.cityofbrookings-sd.gov/CityFunding
• By phone at 605-697-8639
• In person at the City Manager’s Office, Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third Street, Suite 230
All proposals must be submitted in accordance with the city’s budget cycle schedule and proposal format. Requests may be made only during this time period. Mid-year funding requests will not be considered.
Funding decisions are made by taking into consideration:
• The ability of an applicant to provide a service or outcome that improves the quality of life for citizens of Brookings
• The applicant providing a “but for” analysis that demonstrates the need for public assistance
• The applicant’s ability to become self-sustaining
• The duration of the funding commitment
• Operating versus capital requests.
In 2021, the city established a partnership with the Brookings Area United Way for social and human services outside agency funding. Organizations that want to request social and human services funding from both the City of Brookings and the United Way will be able to do so through the United Way process, which will take place in November.
Economic development and other funding requests not related to social and human services should be submitted directly to the city by June 1.
For questions about the process for outside agency funding or the application, contact Deputy City Manager Johnny Mays at [email protected] or 605-697-8639.
