ELKTON — Milbank edged Elkton-Lake Benton by the slimmest of margins for the boys team title in the Vince Relays here Friday.
Milbank finished with 161 points, while Elkton-Lake Benton – the host team – totaled 160.33.
Sioux Valley finished third with 120.83 points and Flandreau fourth with 83.
Joseph Nibbe and Taiton Boersma were each two-time winners for Elkton-Lake Benton,
The versatile Nibbe won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.85 and the 800-meter run in 2:07.25. Boersma, meanwhile, doubled up in the throwing events, copping the shot put with a heave of 52-8.25 and the discus at 153-10.
Colt Beck of Elkton-LB sped to victory in the 100, clocking 11.55, while teammate Caden Crofutt was second in 11.69. Sioux Valley’s Mitchell Guthmiller placed third at 11.88 and Flandreau’s Jacob Mohr fourth at 12.05.
The Elks also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Crofutt, Colt Beck, Caleb Larson and Eliot Erickson teamed for a 44.71 in the 4×100. Crofutt, Erickson, Brady Prosch and Nibbe combined for a 3:41.94 in the 4×400.
Sioux Valley’s Braden Danzeisen won the triple jump with a leap of 42-2.25 and was second in the long jump with 20-8.50.
The Cossacks took first place in the 4×200 with Mitchell Guthmiller, Hunter Steinhaus, Brady Hiltunen and Carson Wosje running 1:33.38. That same foursome added a victory in the sprint medley with a time of 3:39.36.
Elkton-Lake Benton’s Adam Kinner claimed second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:55.64. Sam Schmidt of Flandreau was fourth (5:00.90) and Tyrus Schulz of Sioux Valley fifth (5:03.96).
Sioux Valley’s Erickson claimed second in the pole vault, clearing 12-6. Logan Kontz of Flandreau was second in the 3,200, clocking 10:57.68.
Milbank also won the girls team title with 181 points, while Sioux Valley was second with 134. Flandreau finished fourth with 91 points and Elkton-Lake Benton sixth with 52.
Morgan Sheppard of Flandreau was a double winner, clocking 13.21 in the 100 and 27.35 in the 200. Rhegan Sheppard copped the triple jump with 33-3.
Sydney DeVries of Elkton-Lake Benton won a pair of hurdles races, skimming 17.96 in the 100 and 51.00 in the 300. Jenna Mibbe of Elkton-Lake Benton was second in the 100 hurdles at 20.33 and Elise Williams of Sioux Valley second in the 300 sticks with 54.82.
Sioux Valley’s other individual winners were Porshia VanderWal, who threw the discus 102-1 and Amari Ward, who leaped 15-11.75 in the long jump. Ward teamed with Talya Vincent, Ava Gatzke and Maci Licht for a winning effort of 10:14.20 in the 4×800 and finished second in the javelin with a throw of 100-10.
Flandreau’s Kiley Westberry won the 400 in 1:02.44 and anchored the 4×400 relay to victory with a 4:13.31. Faith Wiese, Rhegan Sheppard and Rona Streitz were the other three runners.
Wiese was the 800 champion with a time of 2:18.28, while Sioux Valley’s Licht placed second in 2:37.46.
The Cossacks got second-place efforts from Lillie Schmit in the 1,600 (6:17.27), Emma Gorvin in the high jump (4-10) and the 4×100 relay (54.81).
