High school track: Brookings Bobcats have good showing at Huron Invitational

HURON, S.D. – Kaylie Kuehl of Brookings High won the girls 3,200-meter run at the Huron Invitational here Friday.

Kuehl clocked 11:24.54 for first place, with teammate Jordyn Johnson finishing eighth with a time of 12:25.17.

Kennedy Ronning posted three runner-up efforts, running 12.45 in the 100, 25.99 in the 200 and clearing 11-6 in the pole vault. Kendis Sackreiter was second in the shot put with a throw of 40-2.75 and sixth in the discus with a spin of 100-5.

The Bobcats’ Annika Krogman turned in second-place effort of 50.37 in the 300 hurdles and was also fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.45.

Rykr Billings placed eighth in the 800 (2:41.54) and Avery Melius tied for eighth in the high jump (4-6). Brookings finished fifth in the girls 4×200 (1:50.94) and 4×400 (4:30.48).

The Brookings boys had three placewinners in the 800, led by Shane Harding, second with a time of 2:04.12. Marco Springman was fifth in 2:06.93 and Jackson Bastemeyer eighth in 2:09.17.

Bergan Tetzlaff had a second-place try of 165-8 in the javelin, while Mason Mathis placed fifth at 148-7.

The 4×400 relay of Ashton Baker, Jack Griggs, Weston Baker and Garrett Ysbrand placed second at 3:34.64. Ashton Baker was third in the 400 at 52.82, Weston Baker fifth in 53.38 and Ysbrand seventh in 53.82.

Brookings got a fourth-place run of 10:02.81 by Dylan Haar in the 3,200. Alex Wainman cleared 6-foot for fourth in the high jump, while Nai Madit was eighth with a jump of 5-8. Eli Hawks placed fifth in the triple jump at 37-3.25. The 4×100 relay team placed fourth with a time of 44.55.

Michael Nelson was seventh in both the discus (123-0) and shot put (43-10.75). Mack Nelson placed eighth in the discus (120-6).
