College track: South Dakota State’s Ellie Harris sets school mark at Jim Duncan Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – Ellie Harris ran 23.81 in the 200-meter dash at the Jim Duncan Invitational here Friday, besting the school’s all-time best by 0.01 seconds.

Harris broke Carly Carper’s decade-old mark of 23.82 and became the second Jackrabbit in program history to run under 24 seconds in an outdoor 200 meet.

“There are many positives to take out of today’s meet,” said SDSU Coach Rod DeHaven. “Conditions weren’t optimal, but we had a lot of folks figure out a way to get it done. Amazing performances from Ellie in the 200-meters and Lucas in the 400. We will need to keep building as the weather and schedule gets more consistent.”

Lucas Flemmer earned a gold medal in the 400-meters with a time of 47.19 to become the third-fastest performer in SDSU history.

The women’s 4X400-meter relay team rounded out the night with a silver-medal run to become the second-fastest performers in program history. Story Rasby, Jenna Johnson, Reese Luze and Erika Kuntz posted a time of 3:43.49, only three second shy of Johnson and Kuntz’s program record run last season.

Griffin Fischer earned a spot on the SDSU top 10 list as the eighth-fastest 200-meter performer in program history with a time of 21.23 to finish in the top five of the event.

Silja Gunderson, Harris, Grace Erick and Sian O’Sullivan won the women’s 4×100 with a time of 46.21.

Hannah Spoden won the 1,500 with a time of 4:32.79 and claimed bronze in the 400-meter hurdles.

Ty Nelson, Kincade Lehman and Wyatt Melcher swept the triple jump podium. Nelson landed at 47-10.50 , Lehman leaped 46-9 and Melcher hit a mark of 46-4.25. Jaden Peters cleared 15-7 to win the pole vault.

Brooks Holen and Hadley Carlson both finished runner-up in their respective high jump competitions. Holen cleared 6-6.75, while Carlson jumped 5-3.
