Brookings Area Quilt Guild will present its quilt show, “Keeping Warm in South Dakota XII: All Creatures Near and Far” on April 18. The show will be at the Dacotah Bank Center, 824 32nd Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 pm. Admission is $10.
It’s been eight years since the last BAQG quilt show in April 2018. The guild made the conscientious decision to cancel the 2020 show prioritizing community safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the time. Since then, guild members have been busy creating quilts and are filled with excitement and anticipation to showcase their quilts to the public.
There will be over 600 quilts on display at the show. That includes 69 quilts made by the guild’s Featured Quilter, Rose Horner, and 47 quilts made by the guild’s Small Town Guild Guest, Pipestone Area Quilters.
Vendors participating in the show are Graceful Marilyn Quilt Shoppe (Marshall, Minnesota), Mary’s Quilt Market (Arthur, North Dakota), Quilt Store & More (Elkton), Patterns on the Prairie (Marshall) and Comfort Ministries (Brookings). In addition, the BAQG Boutique will offer many gently used miscellaneous quilting and sewing tools and items for sale.
There will be seminars on “Small Bags” by Mona Dykhouse, “Fusible Applique Made Easy” by Cindy Bader and “Rug Making” with Cindy Josephsen. Janet Myer will also present a Trunk Show of her handmade quilts.
Special displays of the guild’s activities include the BAQG Block Party Challenge, Linda Louder’s Quilt Challenge, Mystery Quilt taught by Linda Louder, Blue 2020 Fabric Challenge, Feather 2022 Fabric Challenge, “Eldon” Quilts, Panel: One Block Wonder-Ivy Lane Quilter’s Retreat, Community Service and Quilts of Valor.
The highlight of the show is the raffle quilt machine-pieced by Theresa Bennett and machine-quilted by Bev Krog. The quilt is a Judy Niemeyer pattern and measures 101”x101.” Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. The winner’s name will be drawn at the quilt show at 4:30 p.m. and need not be present to win.
The Dacotah Bank Center’s concession stand will be open to purchase meals and snacks during the show.
