Brookings Bobcats down Yankton

BROOKINGS — Winning an extra-inning thriller against a conference foe is a great way to start off your season.

That’s exactly what the Brookings High School softball team did Monday in its season opener against Yankton at the SouthBrook Softball Complex.

The score was knotted at four after the seventh inning and the Bobcats secured the victory with a three-run walk-off homer in the eighth.

Ella Psyk had a good day for the Bobcats. She started the game as pitcher for the Bobcats. She pitched five innings, giving up two hits, one earned run and struck out six Gazelle batters. She pitched the first four innings and returned in the eighth inning to shut down Yankton. Psyk also contributed at the plate, hitting the walk-off homer in the eighth, securing the 7-4 win.

Grace Romsa also had a good day at the plate going 2 for 4 and scoring a run. Kendal Linstad made four trips to the plate, She managed a hit, two walks, one run scored and one RBI.

The Bobcats won the junior varsity game 8-5. Taya Twedt was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats. She struck out three in two innings, giving up two hits and two walks. Offensively the Bobcats had nine hits in the game.

The Bobcats next game is Tuesday, when they travel to Watertown. The first pitch is at 6 p.m.
