BROOKINGS — The Brookings Regional Growth Alliance is inviting residents, businesses and organizations to help create a community mural as part of America’s 250th celebration.
The mural will be unveiled June 4 at the Brookings VFW. Between now and the end of May, community members will paint 950 individual tiles, which will come together to form a large mural mosaic celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Each participant will receive a mural kit with a tile, paint, brushes and instructions, along with step-by-step guidance. Community groups are encouraged to host tile painting parties as a way to bring people together while contributing to a lasting community project. The project, while led by the Growth Alliance, is funded through a grant from the Brookings Public Art Commission.
The South Dakota Art Museum will be hosting a Community Mural Night on April 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Groups interested in hosting a tile painting party or participating in the mural should contact Laura at [email protected] or 800-699-6125 for more information.
Brookings is an official partner in South Dakota’s America’s 250th celebration, and BRGA is gathering event information and building a community events page at VisitBrookingsSD.com to serve as a central hub for local festivities. Residents and visitors are already looking for ways to celebrate, and organizations are encouraged to submit events early so activities can be included as the page continues to grow.
