BROOKINGS — This year’s edition of Pub Crawl proved to be a busy one for the Brookings County Detention Center, which took in dozens of people — more than either last year’s Pub Crawl or Hobo Day 2025.

In all, 32 detainees were booked between 5 p.m. March 27 and 6 a.m. March 29, with 24 of them between 6 a.m. March 28 and 6 a.m. March 29, according to a news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

In comparison, there were 17 intakes for last year’s Pub Crawl, and 28 intakes for Hobo Day 2025, Assistant Sheriff Dave Biteler wrote in the March 30 release.

The breakdown of charges related to this year’s Pub Crawl are as follows:

• Assault: 3

• Eluding: 1

• DUI: 6

• Felony DUI: 1

• Fictitious/false identification: 18

• Drug offense: 1

• Entering or remaining in a building: 2

“All listed charges are Class 1 misdemeanors or higher,” Biteler wrote. “This total does not include citations issued for Class 2 misdemeanors, such as underage consumption of alcohol.”

He noted that the agencies contributing to the arrests included the Brookings Police Department, Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Dakota State University Police Department.
