Brookings School Board OKs spending for roofing, remodeling projects

BROOKINGS — The Brookings School District gave the go-ahead for three major spending issues at it meeting earlier this month.

It approved bids for two contractors for the first phase of the Brookings High School renovation project. The board also approved the purchase, through a lease, of laptops for Camelot Intermediate School.

MJ Dalson of Sioux Falls was the low bid for roofing sections 1 through 5. The firm submitted a bid of $348,776 for the project.

Mills Construction of Brookings was awarded the bid tor the BHS Science Department remodel. The total amount of the bid was $2,204,900.

Funding for both projects comes from capital outlay funds.

The board also approved the purcahse of laptop computers through a four-year lease to replace existing computers. The order needed to be placed to ensure delivery and setup by fall.

Business Services Director Stacy VanBeek said the total cost for the 580 devices won’t be determined until next fall.
