Doris Glatzel

Doris L. Glatzel was born on Dec. 13, 1926 to Oscar and Mary (Larson) Lenning at home during a blizzard. She entered into death on March 16, 2026 at The Neighborhoods at the age of 99.

A service for Doris was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD. A visitation will take place prior from 10 to11:00am Friday, March 20.

Doris grew up with four sisters and two brother and was baptized confirmed and married in the St. Petri Church. During her younger years Doris attended country and high school in Bruce area, and lived her entire life in the Brookings community.

Doris went on to marry Eugene Glatzel on September 15, 1946 and have one daughter. She was a supportive wife and partner working along with Gene on the farm in Eureka township for 67 years. They later moved into Brookings in 2013.

She was energetic and spirited throughout her life. She loved playing music, dancing, shopping, crossword puzzles, reading, and traveling to see her daughter and family around the country, and the coffee was always on and everyone had to eat something even if you weren’t hungry.

Among those who survived and gratefully shared her life is Janice (Curtis) Burt: 3 grandsons Brett (Laura), Shane, and Jason: 2 great grandsons Brendan and Aidan. She was so proud of her boys. Her sister-in-law Jean Lenning: many nieces and nephews: a dear and good friend Raenette and the Ulvestad family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband Gene: her four sisters Lenore, Gladys, Edyth, Alma and their husbands: two brothers Lester, and Vernon (Jean): three sister-in-law’s Ernola, Delores, Donna Jean, and their husbands: 2 nephews and 2 nieces.

We would like to thank nurses and staff at Edgewood, The Brookings hospital, The Neighborhoods, Elm Pass, and Rude’s for arrangements. She was in caring hands.
