ELKTON — A man from Hendricks, Minnesota, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges in connection to a February burglary at Twin City Fan in Elkton.

Clifford Campbell, 58, was arrested by the Lincoln County (Minnesota) Sheriff’s Office on March 13 on local charges related to the burglary, per information in a March 16 news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Minnesota court records show that Campbell is facing a felony charge of transporting stolen goods valued at between $1,000 and $5,000.

A warrant was issued March 16 in Brookings County for Campbell, where he is facing felony charges for first-degree burglary and grand theft. In South Dakota, the former is a Class 2 felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a $50,000 fine, or both. The latter is a Class 4 felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

According to earlier reporting in The Brookings Register, there were two incidents tied to the Elkton burglary, with one occurring on Feb. 13 between 10:50 and 11 p.m. and the second taking place on Feb. 22 between 6:50 and 7:10 p.m.

“On March 12, an investigator with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crime Task Force in executing a search warrant at a residence in Hendricks,” Assistant Sheriff Dave Biteler wrote in the March 16 news release. “During the search, numerous items reported stolen from Twin City Fan were recovered.”

He told The Brookings Register in its Feb. 25 story that there were no signs of forced entry into the facility at 210 Badger St. N., adding that between the two incidents, approximately 20 items were reported missing.

Campbell is currently at the Lincoln County Jail in Ivanhoe, Minnesota, pending extradition to Brookings County, Biteler noted in the March 16 release.

Campbell’s initial court appearance for the Minnesota charge is set for March 26 at 9:15 a.m. in Ivanhoe.
