Colman-Egan girls advance to State Tournament

HURON – The Colman-Egan girls’ basketball team punched its ticket to the Class B State Tournament on Thursday night as the Hawks beat Warner 49-44 in the SoDak 16. 

The No. 5 seeded Hawks had to rally in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

CE led 20-9 at the end of the fourth quarter and then Wagner cut the lead to 25-18 heading into halftime. The Monarchs then outscored the Hawks 18-9 in the third to take a 36-34 lead into fourth. However, CE had a 15-8 advantage in the final quarter to get to the win.

Colman-Egan shot 34.8% from the field and was 2-of-22 from three. Brynlee Landis led the Hawks with 20 points and seven rebounds. Quinn Meyer had 12 points and five rebounds and Jolie Flatten had nine points.

Warner shot 29.8% from the field and was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Jaycee Jung had 12 points to lead the Monarchs. Kaydee Mackner had nine points.

Each team had 31 rebounds. Warner had 17 turnovers and Colman-Egan had 16. The Hawks were 15-of-22 at the free throw line and the Monarchs were 11-of-21.

Colman-Egan will be the No. 5 seed in the Class B State Tournament. The Hawks’ quarterfinal game will be against No. 4 seeded Ethan and will be at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday.
