Elkton-Lake Benton, Flandreau and Deubrook Area kept their boys basketball seasons alive on Tuesday night with wins in their respective region brackets.
The Elks beat Great Plains Lutheran in Region 2A, Flandreau topped Garretson in Region 3A and Deubrook Area defeated Estelline/Hendricks in Region 2B.
Region 2A
No. 4 Elkton-Lake Benton 67, No. 5 Great Plains Lutheran 29
The Elks outscored the Panthers 25-7 in the second quarter and rolled from then on.
ELB was up 12-8 before the big second quarter and led 37-15 at halftime. The Elks extended the lead to 44-19 at the end of the third and had a 23-10 advantage in the final quarter.
The Elks were led by Joseph Nibbe who had 18 points. Eliot Erickson had 11 points and Colt Beck had nine points. Myles Poindexter and Berkley Hemmen had seven points.
GPL was led by Lucas Johnson who had nine points.
ELB is now 13-8 on the year. The Elks will play at No. 1 seeded Clark/Willow Lake (18-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. and the winner will play in the Class A SoDak 16.
Region 3A
No. 2 Flandreau 71, No. 7 Garretson 66
Flandreau pulled ahead in the third quarter and then held Garretson off to get a postseason win.
Garretson had a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Fliers cut the lead to 30-29 by halftime. Flandreau would then outscore Garretson 21-12 in the third to go up 50-42 going into the fourth.
The Blue Dragons cut it to 56-54 with 4:40 to go in the game. Alexavier Poitra then hit a three to put the Fliers up five. Colton Buchholz then made a three with 1:07 to go to cut Flandreau’s lead to 67-64.
Luke Sheppard scored on the other end to push the lead up to five with 37 seconds left and then Brecken Weir made a lay up to make a 3-point game again with 20.7 seconds to go. Poitra was fouled with 14.6 ticks left and he hit two free throws to seal the deal for the Fliers.
Sheppard had a huge game for the Fliers with 27 points, six rebounds and three steals. Poitra had 21 points and four assists. Kody Kneebone had 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
Garretson was led by Carter Siemonsma who had 18 points. Buchholz had 16 points and Weir had 15 points.
Flandreau is now 14-7 and will host No. 3 seeded Baltic (13-7) on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner will go to the Class A SoDak 16.
Region 2B
No. 4 Deubrook Area 55, No. 5 Estelline/Hendricks 51
The Dolphins were able to win a tight one over the Redhawks on Tuesday night to keep their season alive.
Each team scored 15 points in the first quarter. The Dolphins were then up 27-25 at halftime. They extended their lead to 39-34 by the end of the third. Estelline/Hendricks outscored Deubrook 17-16 in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough as the Dolphins came out on top.
Deubrook was led by Chance Schoenfeld who had 23 points. Braxton Bednarek had a strong game as well with 21 points.
Drayden Cokens led the Redhawks with 19 points. Kade Hauck and Cade Hexum each had 11 points.
The Dolphins are now 15-6 and the Redhawks finished with a record of 15-6 as well. Deubrook will play No. 1 seeded De Smet (17-4) at 6 p.m. in Huron. The winner will play in the Class B SoDak 16.
