The Colman-Egan and Deubrook Area girls basketball teams advanced to the SoDak 16 on Thursday night with wins in their respective regions.
The Hawks topped Chester 49-32 in Region 3B and the Dolphins won a tight one against Castlewood in Region 2B
Region 3B
No. 2 Colman-Egan 49, No. 3 Chester 32
The Hawks built a lead in the first half and then fended off the Flyers in the final two quarters.
Colman-Egan led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Hawks then outscored the Flyers 12-7 in the second to take a 22-11 lead into halftime. CE was only able to extend the lead to 31-19 by the end of the third but then outscored Chester 18-13 in the final quarter.
The Hawks shot 44.4% from the field and were 3-of-10 from three. Brynlee Landis led CE with 19 points and six rebounds. Quinn Meyer had 13 points and five rebounds. Jolie Flatten had 11 points and Mya Reiff had six points and 13 boards.
Chester shot 23.5% from the field and was 1-of-18 from beyond the arc. Jacy Wolf led the Flyers with 20 points and five rebounds. Emmerson Eppard had three points and 11 rebounds.
Colman-Egan will be the No. 5 seed in the Class B SoDak 16 and will play No. 12 seeded Warner in Huron on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Region 2B
No. 3 Deubrook Area 39, No. 2 Castlewood 37
Matte Bauman made a lay up with 4.1 seconds to put the Dolphins in front. She was fouled on the play and missed the free throw and Castlewood called time out with 3.2 ticks to go. However, the Warriors weren’t able to get a shot off and punched their ticket to a second-straight SoDak 16.
Two free throws from Mataya Gouws made it 37-35 with 1:19 left. Brynlee Hanson then tied things up with 28 seconds left with a jumper. Neely Gustad then stole the ball on the Warriors’ next possession and that set up Bauman’s game winner.
Deubrook led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Dolphins then extended the lead to 25-20 going into halftime. Castlewood would take a 30-29 lead going into the fourth but the Dolphins were able to outscore the Flyers 10-7 in the final quarter.
The Dolphins shot 31.1% from the field and were 2-of-10 from three. Peyton Trooien led Deubrook with 12 points and six rebounds. Gouws had 11 points and Bauman had nine points. Both players had seven rebounds.
Castlewood shot 31.3% from the field and was 2-of-13 from three. Ava Ruml had 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Warriors.
Deubrook Area will be the No. 13 seed in the Class B SoDak 16 and will play No. 4 seeded Ethan in Parker on Thursday at 7 p.m.
