Rose Carolyn (Black) Rost passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, in Brookings, SD. A funeral for Rose will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Feb., 25, 2026, at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings, SD. Rose Carolyn Black was born on Aug. 7, 1937, at the Madison Community Hospital in Madison, SD the daughter of Harold and Carrie (Frautschy) Black.
Rose received her education at Richter and Junius Schools and graduated from General Beadle High School. She also attended General Beadle State College for one year.
Rose was united in marriage to Donald Rost on April 13, 1957, in Madison, SD. She worked as a nanny for two years, as a stay-at-home mom and cleaned houses since 1981. Donald passed away on Sept. 3, 2012.
She was a member and attended church at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings, SD. Rose enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Rose is survived by her four children; Kristie Champy of Suprise, AZ Daniel (Julie) Rost of Arlington, SD, Jeffery Rost of Des Moines, IA, Steven (Andrea) Rost of Lakeville, MN; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Rost, and her son Jimmy Rost.
