PIERRE – The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team won its penultimate game of the regular season on Saturday night as the Rangers beat Pierre Oahe 3-2.
It was 1-1 after the first two periods and then the Capitals scored the first goal of the third period. Brookings then scored two goals in the final seven and a half minutes to earn the victory.
Parker Nielsen put Brookings up 1-0 with a power play goal in the first period. It came with 3:13 left in the opening period and he was assisted by Talon Hyde. Landry Van Roekel tied the game with 6:23 left in the second and he was assisted by Dylan Dodson.
Aiden Bauer gave the Capitals the lead with 11:43 left in the third. The goal came on the power play and he was assisted by Dodson. Jay Harris tied it at 2-2 with 7:31 to go and he was assisted by Hyde. Jack Lovseth scored the game-winning goal with 4:55 to go and he was assisted by Carson Kludt. Brookings was able to hold off Mitchell the rest of the way.
Brookings had 33 shots and Pierre Oahe had 18. Neil Trygstad was in net for the Ranges and made 16 saves.
The Rangers are now 13-6-2 on the year. They are in fourth place in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association standings. The Rangers will close out the regular season this upcoming Friday at home against Sioux Center at 8 p.m.
