17 Bobcat wrestlers qualify for state tournament

MADISON – The Brookings wrestling teams had a total of 17 wrestlers qualify for State over the weekend.

The Bobcat boys had 10 wrestlers qualify at the Region 1A Meet and the girls had seven qualify at the Region 1 Meet. The State Wrestling Tournaments will be held at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls this upcoming Thursday-Saturday.

Boys

Zach Hagemann was the only Brookings wrestler to win his weight class and he did it at 215. Hagemann pinned Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Hector Kelly in 2:38 in the quarterfinals and then pinned Tea Area’s Tea Area’s Jaeden Waltner in 3:42 in the semifinals. In the championship match Hagemann won a 13-5 major decision over Milbank’s Hunter Reede.

Jacob Milliron qualified for State with a second-place finish in the 150-pound weight class. 

Milliron received a bye in the first round and then pinned Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Exavian Aungie Baker in 5:08 in the quarterfinals. He would then pin Watertown’s Keslar Swenson in 1:53 in the semifinals and then was pinned by Tea Area’s Trevin Audiss in 3:21 in the title match.

Blake Kannegieter also came in second in the 190-pound weight class. He received a bye in the quarterfinals and then won a 15-0 technical fall over Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Carter Moxley in the semifinals. In the championship match he lost a 7-2 decision to Watertown’s Cade Kuemper.

Luke VanVlymen qualified for State by coming in third at 157. VanVlymen pinned Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Carston Ringling in 1:54 in the quarterfinals and then lost a 17-1 technical fall to O’Gorman’s Keanu Lee in the semifinals. He would then win a 13-9 decision over West Central’s Hayden Whiting in the consolation semifinals and then won a 17-2 technical fall over Tea Area’s Trevor Cordell in the third-place match.

Mason Mathis finished in third at 165 and qualified for State. Mathis pinned Tea Area’s Michael Bastemeyer in 26 seconds in the quarterfinals and then lost a 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker to Watertown’s Markus Pitkin in the semifinals. He would then pin Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Daniel Medina in 2:26 in the consolation semifinals and pinned West Central’s Jett Whiting in 26 seconds in the third-place match.

Josh Deming qualified for State by coming in fourth in the 106-pound weight class. Deming won his quarterfinal match with a 16-6 major decision over Tea Area’s Braylon Hoyer. In the semifinals he was pinned in 1:57 by West Central’s Caden Roe but then he pinned Milbank’s Liam Prasnicki in 4:44 in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match he lost a 17-2 technical fall to O’Gorman’s Macyn Gardner.

Hunter Mellon came in fourth place in the 120-pound weight class and also qualified for State. In the quarterfinals Mellon pinned Milbank’s Tayson Tillma in 3:04 and then in the semifinals he was pinned by West Central’s Bentley Klinkhammer in 1:16. He received a bye in the consolation semifinals and then lost a 6-1 decision to Tea Area’s Aaron Halbur in the third-place match.

Briggs Archer qualified for State with a fourth-place finish in the 126-pound weight class. Archer pinned Jackson Herbek of Tea Area in 1:54 in the semifinals and then lost a 17-1 technical fall to Watertown’s Brody Randall in the semifinals. Archer would pin Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Sirius Garming in 2:18 in the consolation semifinals before losing a 10-3 decision to O’Gorman’s Will Norman in the third-place match.

Micah Stern had a fourth-place finish at 138 to qualify for State. Stern pinned Milbank’s Maxton Schafer in 1:06 in the quarterfinals and then lost an 8-2 decision to Watertown’s Kutler Swensen in the semifinals. He would pin Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Jasper Husman in 2:32 in the consolation semifinals and then lost a 9-2 decision to West Central’s Alex Siemonsma in the third-place match. 

James Fitzpatrick came in fourth at 175 to qualify for State. Fitzpatrick pinned West Central’s Braxton Huber in 5:19 in the quarterfinals and then lost a 13-8 decision to Watertown’s Landen Lewis in the semifinals. He then won a 16-0 technical fall over Milbank’;s Tanen Schmieg in the consolation semifinals and then lost an 8-0 decision to Dell Rapids’ Breck Evans in the third-place match.

Haiden Baxter came in fifth in the 132-pound weight class. Baxter lost a 10-4 decision to Dell Rapids’ Camden Tebay in the quarterfinals. He received a bye in the consolation first round and then lost a 15-0 technical fall to Tea Area’s Slater Wilson in the consolation semifinals. Baxter then received a bye in the fifth-place match.

Ty Delbridge finished in fifth at 144. He received a bye in the first round and then lost a 9-2 decision to Watertown’s Max Stroup in the quarterfinals. Delbridge would then pin Dell Rapids’ Zach Grochow in 1:49 in the second round of the consolation bracket and then pinned Milbank’s Hunter Johnson in the third round. He then lost a 16-1 technical fall to O’Gorman’s Easton Scheidt in the consolation semifinals before pinning Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Sawyer Hovdestad in 2:33 in the fifth-place match.

Bode TeKrony came in sixth in the 113-pound weight class. TeKrony was pinned in 1:09 by Watertown’s Jonah Anderson in the quarterfinals and then pinned Milbank’s Jax Jonason in 2:13 in the first round of the consolation bracket. In the consolation semifinals TeKrony was pinned in 49 seconds by Tea Area’s Kade Elmers and then he lost a 18-9 major decision to Sioux Falls Rossevelt’s Gabriel Herzog in the fifth-place match.

Dylan Reynolds came in sixth place at heavyweight. Reynolds won via forfeit in the quarterfinals and then was pinned in 6:38 by Milbank’s Lawson Novy in the semifinals. He would then lose a 4-1 decision to Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Noah Duran in the consolation semifinals before having a medical forfeit against Watertown’s Connor Christianson in the fifth-place match.

Girls

Kami Erickson won the 125-pound weight class. She received a bye in the quarterfinals and then pinned Emery Voelker of Tea Area in 4:16 in the semifinals. In the championship match Sisseton’s Vi Anderson had a medical forfeit and Erickson came out on top.

Kendis Sackreiter also came in first in the 235-pound weight class. She received a bye in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. Sackreiter then took on Watertown’s Eden Hach in the championship and won due to injury time for Hach.

Claire Milliron came in third at 100 to qualify for State. Millirion pinned Watertown’s Lily Lindsey in 1:04 in the quarterfinals and then was pinned by Aliyah Steveson in 1:29 in the semifinals. She then pinned Britton-Hecla’s Olivia Beorgen in 1:55 in the consolation semifinals and pinned Watertown’s Lily Lindsey in 51 seconds in the third-place match.

Lily Toft had a third-place finish at 115 to qualify for State. She received a bye in the first round and then pinned Sully Buttes’ Adela Ramirez in 47 seconds in the quarterfinals. Toft then lost an 8-4 decision to Clark/Willow Lake’s Emma Bochek in the semifinals but bounced back with a pin of Gettysburg’s Taylor Long in 2:53 in the consolation semifinals. She pinned Webster Area’s Macee McGregor in 3:58 in the third-place match.

Ramsie Hinricher came in third place in the 130-pound weight class to qualify for State. Hinricher pinned Sioux Falls Jefferson’s JJ Brown in 55 seconds in the quarterfinals and then lost a 17-2 technical fall to Sophia Knittel of Ipswich in the semifinals. She then pinned Kingsbury County’s Layla Crowe in 1:55 in the consolation semifinals and then pinned Chyanne Guerdet of Clark/Willow Lake in 2:58.

Madison Balis also qualified for State with a third-place finish at 145. Ballis received a bye in the quarterfinals and then was pinned by Sully Buttes’ Cheyenne Fuller in 2:30. She received another bye in the consolation semifinals and then pinned Roosevelt’s Makhala Nissen in 56 seconds in the third-place match.

Bailey TeKrony qualified for State with a fourth-place finish at 110. She received a bye in the first round and then pinned Dell Rapids’ Elly Murphy in 2:23 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals TeKrony was pinned by Sisseton’s Isabella Current in 2:30 and then she pinned Sioux Valley’s Trinity Kurtenbach in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match TeKrony was pinned in 4:37 by West Central’s Kyliegh Schuller.
