TULSA, Okla. – South Dakota State snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday as the Jackrabbits pulled away from Oral Roberts and came away with an 87-69 victory at the Mabee Center.
Oral Roberts (6-21, 1-11) led 12-5 just over four minutes into the game. SDSU (12-15, 5-7) then went on a 12-0 run to take the lead with 10:36 to go in the first half. Oral Roberts fought back and tied things at 23-23 with 4:52 to play in the half but SDSU outscored ORU 13-6 the rest of the half and took a 36-29 lead into halftime.
The Golden Eagles tied things up at 47-47 five and a half minutes into the second half. SDSU then led 51-50 with 12:07 to go. The Jacks then went on a 16-4 run to go up 67-54. It was then 70-57 and SDSU used an 11-3 run to push the lead to 81-60 with 4:39 to play.
SDSU shot 51.7% from the field and was 12-of-23 from three. The Jacks had five players score in double figures. Kalen Garry led the way with 18 points and Damon Wilkinson and Jaden Jackson each had 15 points. Joe Sayler had 13 points and seven rebounds. Alec Squires had 13 points off the bench.
ORU shot 39.7% from the field and was 10-of-30 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles were led by Ty Harper who had 25 points. Connor Dow and Luke Gray each had 12 points.
The Jacks won the rebound battle 33-32. SDSU forced 15 turnovers and had nine steals. The Jacks had 10 turnovers of their own. Each team was 13-of-14 at the free throw line.
SDSU will return home for two games this upcoming week, hosting North Dakota State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then playing North Dakota in Brookings on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Jacks will close out the regular season with road games at Kansas City on Feb. 26 and at South Dakota on Feb. 28.
