CLEAR LAKE – The Sioux Valley basketball teams each blew out Deuel on Tuesday night.
The Cossack girls came away with a 52-19 victory and the boys won 69-40.
Girls
Sioux Valley 52, Deuel 19
The Cossacks dominated the first half, but they really flexed their muscles in the second quarter when they shutout the Cardinals.
Sioux Valley led 14-5 after the first quarter. The Cossacks then outscored the Cardinals 25-0 in the second and led 39-5 at halftime. Sioux Valley took its foot off the gas in the second half as Deuel outscored them 14-13.
The Cossacks shot 37% from the field and were 9-of-32 from three. They were led by Liberty Trygstad who had 19 points and six rebounds. Talya Vincent had 11 points and Kailey Cradduck had eight points.
Sioux Valley held Deuel to 15.9% shooting from the field and the Cardinals were 2-of-8 from deep. Camdyn Peterreins had seven points and seven rebounds to lead Deuel.
The Cossacks improved to 14-2 on the season. They’ll play at Dell Rapids on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Boys
Sioux Valley 69, Deuel 40
The Cossacks got off to a red hot start and didn’t look back against the Cardinals.
Sioux Valley led 28-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Cossacks then outscored the Cardinals 13-9 in the second and increased the lead to 41-18 at halftime. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter and then Sioux Valley had a 15-9 advantage in the final quarter.
The Cossacks shot 47.2% from the field and were 9-of-23 from beyond the arc. Carter Sapp led Sioux Valley with 19 points and five rebounds. Connor Relf had 13 points and Brady Hiltunen had 11 points. Braden Danzeisen had eight points.
Deuel shot 34.9% from the field and was 2-of-10 from three. The Cardinals were led by Kyle Finnesnd had 11 points and nine rebounds. Troy Jensen had nine points and Braxtin Winter had eight points.
Sioux Valley won the rebound battle 26-25. The Cossacks had 11 turnovers and the Cardinals had 17. Sioux Valley was 10-of-14 at the free throw line and Deuel was 8-of-12.
The Cossacks are now 12-5. They’ll play at Castlewood this upcoming Tuesday at 8 p.m.
