BROOKINGS – The Brookings boys’ basketball team fell to Sioux Falls Roosevelt 73-61 on Tuesday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
The Rough Riders led wire-to-wire on Tuesday. They jumped out to a 9-4 lead just over three and half minutes of the game. Brookings would cut the lead to 12-9 but Roosevelt pushed the lead to 17-11 at the end of the opening quarter.
Roosevelt went on an 11-2 run to open the second quarter. That 15-point lead would remain the rest of the quarter as the Rough Riders took a 37-22 lead into halftime.
Brookings won the third quarter. Roosevelt led 49-31 with three minutes to go in the third. The Bobcats then outscored the Rough Riders 13-5 the rest of the quarter and trailed 54-44 going into the fourth. However, Roosevelt had a 19-17 advantage in the final quarter and the final margin was 12.
Brookings shot 51% from the field and was 6-of-19 from three. Bergan Tetzlaff had a big game for the Bobcats with 20 points and five rebounds. Noah Lease had 16 points and Drew Johnson had 11 points. Jase Bauer had seven points and five rebounds and Jones Huntimer had five points.
Roosevelt shot 56.5% from the field and was 9-of-17 from beyond the arc. Bryson Skogsberg had 22 points and eight rebounds. Justin Bilal had 18 points and Deondre Painter had 14 points. Capital Schmaus was the final Rough Rider to score in double digits with 10 points.
The Rough Riders had a 25-24 advantage in rebounds. Brookings had 16 turnovers and Roosevelt had 11. The Bobcats were 3-of-4 at the free throw line and the Rough Riders were 12-of-20.
Brookings dropped to 1-13 on the season. The Bobcats will play at Sioux Falls Jefferson on Friday at 7 p.m.
