Ranger boys take care of business in Watertown

WATERTOWN – The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team topped Watertown 5-1 on Saturday night.

The Rangers scored three goals in the first period and two in the third period. 

Talon Hyde scored the first goal for Brookings with 9:49 to go in the opening period. He was assisted by Jay Harris. Nolan Krogman made it 2-0 just over two minutes later and he was assisted by Cooper Schneider. Cade Zweber scored the final goal of the first period and he was assisted by Jason Ready and Parker Nielsen.

Boston Butler got the Lakers on the board in the second period. He was assisted by Jack Elshere and Tyson Lawrence. 

Ready scored two goals in the third. The first came on the power play with 9:38 to go and he was assisted by Nielsen and Waylon Carroll. The second was an empty netter with two minutes to play and he was assisted by Nielsen again.

Brookings had 29 shots and Watertown had 10. Neil Trygstad was between the pipes for the Rangers and he had nine saves.

The Rangers improved to 11-5-2 on the season. They are in fourth place in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association standings. Brookings hosts Yankton this upcoming Friday at 8 p.m. and then will take on Brandon Valley at home on Saturday at 8 p.m.
