SDSU women get back on track in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. – South Dakota State got back to its winning ways on Wednesday as the Jackrabbits beat St. Thomas 84-51 at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena.

The Tommies hung around with the Jacks for a quarter but SDSU dominated the final 30 minutes.

SDSU led 15-9 after the opening 10 minutes. The Jacks pushed the lead to 31-21 with 3:24 to go in the first half. They then outscored the Tommies 7-3 in the final three and a half minutes and led 38-23 at halftime.

It was 47-29 with 5:42 left in the third and the Jacks outscored the Tommies 16-9 the rest of the quarter and led by 25 going into the fourth. That lead increased to 75-41 with 6:46 to go in the game as the Jacks opened the final quarter with a 12-3 run. That was the largest lead of the game.

SDSU shot 52.4% from the field and was 8-of-24 from three. Madison Mathiowetz led the Jacks with 21 points. Brooklyn Meyer was 7-of-9 from the field and had 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Emilee Fox made three 3-pointers and had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Mahli Abdouch had nine points and Brooklyn Felchle had eight points.

UST shot 44.2% from the field and was 6-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Tommies were led by Alyssa Sand who had 12 points. Faith Feuerbach had 11 points and Autumn McCall had 10 points.

The Jacks doubled up the Tommies in rebounds, 38-19. UST had 17 turnovers and SDSU had 12. The Jacks were 10-of-13 at the free throw line and UST was 7-of-13.

SDSU improved to 18-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play. The Jacks will have a week off and host North Dakota on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
