Jerome Johnson

Jerome B. Johnson passed away on Jan. 30, 2026, in Sioux Falls, SD. A funeral service for Jerome will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 7, 2026. A private family burial will take place at a different date.

Jerome was born on Feb. 4, 1948, in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Henry M. and Inez O. (Erickson) Johnson.

Jerry received his education in Baltic, SD and was a graduate of the Baltic High School in 1966. He attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated in 1968. He was employed with the Attorney General’s Office of South Dakota for Attorney General Frank L. Farrar. In December of 1968, he accepted the position of Court Reporter for all District County Court in Brookings until 1975, when he became the circuit court reporter until present.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, President of Sons of Norway in 1974, Brookings BPO Elks #1490, the Optimist Club, Ducks Unlimited and the Brookings Wildlife Federation. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by sister-in-law Anne “Peggy” Johnson of Casper, WY, and close friends Gary (Sharon) Moen and his family of Brookings; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brother Odell, Ivan, Dean and sister-in-law Lynette, and sister–in-law June.

In lieu of flowers, all donations can be made to First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD.

    Jerry was a kind of personality we all can admire, always a friendly smile and a kind word that could relate to the type of nature of your friendship. I will remember all the “make me feel good” greetings we shared in the Courthouse.
