Clarice Elverud

Clarice Elverud, age 102, passed away on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings, SD, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, SD, with Interment to follow at the First Lutheran Cemetery of Volga. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.11, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Volga.

Clarice Harriet Selland was born Nunda, SD, on July 1, 1923, the daughter of Herman and Clara (Mehlum) Selland. Growing up, she attended South Prairie Queen School for 8 years and graduated from Rutland High School, class of 1940. On Oct. 17, 1942, Clarice was united in marriage to Harry Elverud in Nunda, SD. To this union, Aix children were raised.

Clarice was a part of many organizations and clubs; 4-H Leader, Sunday School Teacher, member of homemixers extension Club for 61 years (started in 1946), home health aid for many years, Sons of Norway member, member of First Lutheran church in Volga, WELC at the church as well as a Church Officer.

Some of Clarices special interests included; reading, crocheting, gardening, baking, making lefsa. She has even kept a diary since 1937. One of the Clarices cherished memories was visiting Norway in 1985. Above all, she enjoyed her family and friends.

Clarice is survived by her children; Larry (Nancy) Elverud, Kathleen (Jerome) Nusz, Cynthia (Clyde) Ulvestad, Mary Lou Albright, Julie (Wes) Oines; grandchildren, Nicole (Dana) Salonen, Amber (Vikas) Khanna, Heather (Mike) Caron, Crystal (Jon) Paone, Ruben (Amanda) Nusz, Ben Nusz, Sarah (Loren) Keizer, Andrea (Jordan) Warne, Carrie (Matt) Mason, Tara (Jake) Mohrlang, Matt Keiser, Tom Keiser, Justin Vostad, Brandon Vostad and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Harold Vostad, parents Herman and Clara (Mehlum) Selland, and her two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Keizer and Harry Mason.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be donated to the First Lutheran Cemetery or First Lutheran Church of Volga.
